Experience the Nordic summer...
Discover the wide range of summer activities around our location!
Enjoy the beauty of the nearby national parks, located just about an hour away. Climb the local observation tower for breathtaking views and explore the wild forests of North Karelia, where remote ponds invite you to swim and relax in nature.
Go fishing on Lake Valtimojärvi or explore the area by traditional wooden rowboat. Watch the arrival of migratory birds in April and May, experience the magic of the Midsummer Night in June, or gather berries and mushrooms in the forests from late July onwards.
...or experience the beauty of the Nordic winter
Although berries and mushrooms can still be found in the forests during late autumn, nature gradually comes to rest – and so do body and mind. Enjoy a hot sauna and cold winter nights. Admire breathtaking Northern Lights or spend cozy evenings by the crackling fireplace.
For those looking for more activity, there is plenty to do as well. Nearby towns and ski resorts offer kilometres of cross-country skiing trails. Explore forests, lakes, and nearby national parks on snowshoes, try ice fishing, or take a refreshing dip in an ice hole.

Omavaraniemi is a place where people, animals, and nature live in harmony. During your stay, you are warmly invited to experience authentic life on a Finnish permaculture farm and take a glimpse behind the scenes of our daily life.
Our Animal Residents
Meet our curious sheep, watch our hardworking runner ducks naturally control slugs in the garden, or visit our rabbits and honeybees. Each animal has its own personality and plays an important role in life on the farm. Our animals bring a sense of peace to everyday life and always enjoy friendly visitors.
A Garden in Transition
I manage the farm according to the principles of permaculture. The garden is currently going through an exciting phase of development and transformation.
If you are interested in sustainable self-sufficiency, natural gardening, or permaculture, I would be happy to show you the projects taking shape here in the north of Finland and explain how these ideas work in practice.
